The owner had a vision to create a climbing center for people of all ages – children, women, men – to promote the sport and joy of rock climbing. In addition, the goal of this project was to support the city of Great Falls’ downtown master plan by infilling a vacant building with a business that would draw people in during the day and after hours to help create a vibrant downtown.

Our firm helped them turn a modest-sized single-story building that was formerly an automotive repair shop into a challenging and unique recreation/fitness center. Climbing routes allow climbers of any skill level to be challenged as they work through the solutions.

We completed Phase I, the bouldering gym, which allows climbers to safely engage routes at moderate heights with no ropes, protected with padded mats.   Phase 2 will feature 35’ to 40’ interior and exterior walls requiring the climber to be roped-up and on belay for safety.

Cost: $123,000

Size: 3,260 SF

Unique: The project required a change of building occupancy and enhancing the exterior envelope to add thermal insulation.  Completely new HVAC and plumbing systems were also installed.
