Challenge

Benefis Health System has moved to the forefront of resident-centered senior care in this major interior renovation of their 1984 Skilled Nursing Center. Our firm designed a warm, healing, patient-centered environment by incorporating the household model. The Benefis Eastview Memory Care project was featured in Healthcare Design’s Annual Showcase (2015).

A total of 32 private patient residences replaced double rooms. Bright colors were strategically placed throughout to promote a friendly environment while helping residents identify their rooms. A circular walking path, complete with era-relevant graphics, allows residents continuous, free movement within the facility’s community. The renovation also featured a relaxing Snoezelen Room, a day-lit forest solarium and a 1950s-themed dining room. A visually-rich Main Street corridor connects the assisted living and memory care communities, bringing the ‘neighborhood’ to life. Main Street services include: a salon, library, community center, gym, bank, and event area.

The residents and their families, as well as the staff, are thrilled with the outcome. Since the completion of this project, the patient satisfaction and quality of life have significantly increased.
