AIA, NCARB – Partner/ Project Architect

For me, architecture is about more than just the design. I find a great deal of personal and professional satisfaction in working with our clients and contractors through the entire process – from concept and form to construction and completion. Coordinating everything along the way to ensure a successful project for the owner.

Tyson joined Nelson Architects in 2009 as an intern while earning a degree in architecture. He received his Master’s in Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. In June of 2018 Tyson became a licensed architect. After 12 years of working for Nelson Architects he has risen to the role as one of the Partners. His progression has been instrumental in furthering the growth of Nelson Architects.

Tyson has completed a number of large design projects as the project architect including the 100+ Unit Guardian Apartments, MSUs Miller Dining Hall, North 40 outfitters, and the Central Montana Medical Center. He also helped serve as project manager during the completion of Benefis Health System’s pharmacy and their new emergency department and trauma center and many other projects.

Tyson has a unique combination of creative design skills along with finely tuned technical skills. He’s an expert in a wide variety of modeling programs that help us serve our clients. For example, we use Building Information Modeling (BIM) which allows us to catch overlapping systems early in the design process, saving our clients’ money during construction. Tyson is also adept in developing photo-realistic renderings that help our clients envision the finished design.

As a strong team player, Tyson is committed to our clients and firm by putting in the extra effort it takes to assure the design team meets critical deadlines.
